Hi there!
I'm Rhys, and at my core I am a storyteller. As a queer writer, narrative and game designer, former lecturer, and current DM, I have a deep affinity and love for the transformative power of play, fantasy, and make believe
My passion for storytelling manifests in multitudes: be it as a gamer, a GM, an educator, an interdisciplinary artist, an academically trained researcher, or particularly, as a certified yapper. In all of these capacities, I hold firm to the knowledge that games are more than just refuges of escapism alone. While this function is necessary and worthwhile in the challenging era in which we live, games hold equal potential as carriers for change.
The embodiment conveyed through a game’s world offers more than just distraction. It can offer avenues for emotional release, reflection, and even personal or collective healing. If we make games with care, the worlds that we create for players can simultaneously be spaces of fun and of learning, of adventure and of emotional processing, and of combat and of forgiveness. We as game creators are placed in a unique position; we have the chance to capture our audience’s attention for days, weeks, and even months at a time through an experience in which they are not only invested, but also – unlike any other medium – an experience which they can actively co-shape.
